Meet Shelby Leigh Kizer
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart..."
Colossians 3 :23
My name is Shelby Leigh Kizer. I'm a professional watercolor and acrylic artist currently residing in Hattiesburg, Mississippi with my husband, Zach and my two daughters, Andi and Kit. I graduated from WillIam Carey University in 2018 with a degree in Fine Art. When I'm not painting, I'm soaking up every moment with my girls, taking care of our goats and chickens on our little farm, gardening, or doing some DIY project around the house with my sweet husband!

I found my calling for art a little different than most. As a elementary student, I loved art and creating, but around middle school, I started to notice that I couldn’t draw as well as my peers. I put down art entirely until my junior year of college. Desperate to find my calling, I took my first art class in almost 10 years. I found my love for art again, and I fell in love with creating art that allowed me to scribble unapologetically, make mistakes, experiment, and create something that is unique to me.

My paintings are deeply inspired by nature and my faith. I creates colorful, whimsical, and expressive representations of botanicals and landscapes. The mediums that I typically use are watercolor on paper and acrylic on canvas. With each collection that I create, I am learning more about my faith. As I work through my paintings, I feel God is working on my spirit and throughout the process brings forth a message, a scripture, a small encouragement that I need in my life and that I feel called to share with others. You can find these special meanings behind each of my collections on the page titled 'Journal.'

I know in my heart that God brought me back to art, and I'm just so thankful to get to create and do what I love everyday.
